At 09:36 on August 31st 2011 RTFC units were dispatched for a report of an oil tank leaking. After confirming the corrected address, units arrived to find two 275 gallon fuel oil tanks had floated and turned over during the flooding conditions from hurricane Irene.
RTFC members quickly identified the problem and decided the easiest method to stop the leak was to simply tip the tanks high enough for the oil to stop dripping from the vents. With the tank being too heavy to lift by hand, the crew from Squad 21 opted to utilize the hydraulic spreader to raise the tank enough to stabilize the leak.
Hunterdon County Health Dept and Haz Mat representatives responded for the investigation and all RTFC units cleared the scene within 30 minutes.
